They've got the largest shields of any heavy infantry, some of the strongest armor, and are brutal in close combat - plus they always seem to hit more often with their javelins than legionaries do.

Sturgia is good, but there's a few key things to note about them. As others have said, the archer line is too inferior. With battanian fians so close by, it's easy to selectively go around scooping them up off battanian castles. The sturgian varags, spearmen, and line breakers are a magnificent infantry line up.

Yes, that is my main army composition for the last year. Wildings have great javelins, 2 stacks. They really do a number on advancing shield walls, especially with the perk(s) to increase damage to shields. There are also perks to do more damage to horses. Of course you should still have bow/crossbow units in your army.
