Here is a picture of my Gator. The secondary/driven clutch is at the bottom and you can see the belt is at the very top when it's not running. You can also see how the primary/drive clutch has opened all the way letting the belt "fall" down to the shaft. It is not tight and the belt has some clearance on either side when it's at the bottom.

My idle dances around 1300rpm. In high range I felt the machine wanting to move forward at 2000rpm, but mine didnt actually start moving until 2200rpm (we can blane that on the big tires). In low range I felt the desire to move forward at 1700rpm, but it wasn't till about 1850rpm that we actually had forward motion. -Daniel.
